Successful racecar drivers have a successful team that has helped get them to where they are. The Lowell Bennett Motorsports Team is exactly that - a successful team that deserves a lot of credit for their dedication to the sport and, more important, to the team as a whole. This team consists of a large number of men ranging in age and expertise but with the same desire to win every time they go to the track.
There are so many different aspects of making a racecar dominant and you must have the right people to manage those aspects. One person who can work with chassis adjustments of the car probably won't be knowledgeable in tire set-up and maintenance. This is why each person on the Lowell Bennett Motorsports Team is important in his own area of expertise. However, when the negatives of racing happen, you will always see each of these men draw together like a "family" and help each other so they can get the car back in competition. Times like these are when the Crew Chief is very important since he will dictate what needs to be done and by whom. Mike Diestler has been the Crew Chief of this team since 1978 so he has helped bring this team from the small operation it started as to one of the most dominant teams in the Midwest. Besides the actual hands-on work the team does, there are always many expenses to cover. Our Public Relations manager, George Hausauer, has proven to sponsors that their advertising dollars are well spent with this top-running team. Several of the team's sponsors have been with them for many years.
What most people don't see is the amount of time that crewmembers will put into preparing for the next racing programs. The Lowell Bennett Motorsports Team has four racecars that need to be prepared and maintained throughout the season. This means working on the cars three-four nights a week during the summer months. These men take time from their families and their own free time to give to this team. However, not only do the men give of themselves, but also their wives and families do also by allowing them to be a part of this operation. These supportive families deserve appreciation and credit just as much as every other person who makes up this team.
Lowell Bennett knows that he can get in a racecar and drive the best he can but first he needs a good team that can provide him with a good-handling car with the right tires and adjustments. His many feature wins and track championships prove that the Lowell Bennett Motorsports Team knows how to make a car win. These accomplishments are just as much of the team's as they are the driver's!
